It's Memorial weekend, which means it is officially cookout season!  I have my appetite and outfits ready. When planning what to wear to cookouts I always want to find something that is comfy yet cute.  It's always difficult for me because I used to have only two types of outfits dressy and around the house clothes.  Recently, I have been getting outfits that I can dress up or down.

For cookouts I always think a casual swing dress and comfy flats.  With cook outs I am coming for food and fun, the last thing I want to be worried about is my outfit.  If you can try to pick up these dresses while you are out.  It will give you a cute option when you still want to be comfortable.  Pair them with some sneakers and you have the perfect cookout outfit.
Memorial and Independence day are almost here which is a fun time to get festive. Wearing my red, blue, and white, packing up the kids to go to our local parade is the best! If you are like me and love getting festive I found some stores with some great red, white, and blue. Check out Charming Charlie and NY and Company.  Don't wait until last minute! Last year I and ended up having to wear a boys t-shirt because everything was sold out. Ugh! You can always get festive red, white, and blue jewelry if you don't have a shirt as a nice alternative.

I can't wait to be with the family, watching the kids do sparklers, and cuddling under a blanket watching the fireworks.  I am so excited!!
What is your favorite cook out food? Mine is Hot dogs!

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day!!

Wedding season is here, and with more than a couple on our list I have been trying to figure out what to wear. Now that I live in Texas I have still been wrestling with the fact of what to wear to semi-formal events.  I am almost never comfortable with the temperature here.  Either I am melting from the heat, or freezing because the AC is blasting.  So I was curious what to wear dress to wear that would be weather appropriate.
For the warmer months the perfect dress to wear to a wedding in my opinion is not too revealing, light fabric, and vibrant colors. I was able to find a dress with all of those qualities, and I felt like I hit the jackpot! Added bonus that it had my favorite color yellow in it! For summer weddings it's nice to have a dress that would look good throwing a cardigan over too, because sometimes the evenings are cooler or its freezing inside. Use these warmer months to find a dress that is fun with vibrant colors.
I found my awesome dress from a boutique in Fort Worth called the Beehive. Which brings me me to a random thought I wanted to share.  Lately, I have been more interested in shopping at local boutiques.  If you don't you should strongly consider.  I am a huge online shopper, I almost never go to the mall.  Only for emergencies will you see me in a mall. They are too crowded, shopping with kids is never fun, and I feel that I always end up settling for an outfit.  I like to price compare and it's easier for me to put my outfit together shopping online.  However, shopping at boutiques has been refreshing.  Part of me was missing the act of just going to a store and trying stuff on, plus
I loved it because I still didn't have to deal with the crowds.  So if you are like me definitely consider it! I found that you also see items with a lot more character.  Just a random tip! :)
Happy Monday!

While I love my bright colors in spring and summer, I am still a neutral person. I love neutrals and Earth tones. To be honest summer is actually my least favorite season out the year (no I am not crazy lol), Fall is my absolute favorite season. I am from Michigan so I am used to getting all 4 seasons, and in Michigan sometimes summer would come and go in a blink of an eye.  So I never really had time to fall in love with the heat and bright colors that come with it.  Now don't get me wrong, I love bright colors as it is clear my love for yellow. Anyways I digress, neutrals are just a comfortable go to for me.

What I like about Earth tones is I often get the most wear out of these clothes, because I can pair it with different outfit combinations.  A lot of times with my bright pinks I always feel like you make such a statement wearing it that I don't like repeating too much. If you are feeling like your neutrals are looking a bit bland, switch it up by doing a colored jean.

Earth tones can be worn all year round, so make sure keep a stash in your closet! I paired my outfit with fun accessories from Charming Charlie that was under $30 for both, plus I had a coupon. My family has been telling me to go there for years, and I finally went and was in heaven! The thoughts I had while in that store were, so your telling me I can seriously get like 5 pieces of jewelry for under $60 bucks and it not look flimsy. (well yes please and thank you HA!) It was refreshing, I don't want to pay $50 for a necklace.

Happy styling!

Dress: Rent the Runway | Shoes: Steve Madden | Clutch: Aldo exact color sold out online, similar color here| Earrings: Bebe sold out, similar here| Lip Color: Mac Red |

Every one will have to go to a formal event at some point.  Whether it is the Prom, Wedding, or a Black-Tie event. Don't let choosing the perfect dress intimidate you or force you to break the bank.
Our church loves creating different events for couples to have fun, and this time we were headed to the Prom! It was so much fun shopping for this event, I wanted to share a few tips to hopefully help with finding the perfect dress for you.

Establish your event budget: Shopping for a formal event can get pricey, if you don't come in there with a plan to keep the cost within your budget.  Figure out your budget for the entire event, once that is done you can start shopping at appropriate shops.  For me personally, I didn't want to spend a ton of money on this event.  It is always hard for me to spend a lot of money on clothing that I probably would not wear again. I love investing in every day clothes and shoes.  With that being said, most of the department store dresses that I was actually interested were $200 plus.  I couldn't bring myself to spend that for a one-time affair.  I started looking at lesser priced dresses, and I just was not impressed.

I finally got the idea to check out Rent the Runway (no they have not paid me to review lol). I was on the fence about renting a dress, as I didn't know if it was legit or not.  After speaking with few people, they confirmed it was great.  I browsed the site and found many dresses that were great, and that I were in my price range. I loved that they were dresses that had the quality of $200 plus but half the cost due to renting.  If you often go to events, you may want to purchase a dress rather that renting.  Maybe consider finding one you could wear again, but change up the accessories.
Finding the perfect fit dress: This is major for formal dresses, as the fit no matter the cost can make or break the evening.  Before purchasing a dress I always first establish what shape do I want. I figure out what features I want to highlight and hide.  This time around I wanted a dress that was more slimming, and if possible partial sleeves. Make sure to shop for dresses that will play up your best features.  It's important to know the recommended dress attire for the event prior to purchasing a dress.  Is it a formal or semi-formal? This will play in as a factor when choosing the best length of the dress.  My event was a Prom, so I wanted to go all out and pick a floor length dress. When choosing a floor length dress pay attention to the size chart and what height of shoes you will be wearing.  The last thing you want is to want a floor length dress, but then end up flooding.

Rent the Runway was helpful because it allows you to pick a second size at no additional cost, just in case the 1st size doesn't fit. I chose to get the same size but different length, one regular and one long.  I am only 5'3" but I always wear 4 to 5 inch heels. Another thing that was helpful is the site had tons of picture reviews from previous customers. The customers listed their height, weight, body shape along with a photo.  This helped me choose the dress I wore and size. Another thing, I always believe for a fitted dress Spanx are a must! They help smooth everything out, help shape out your silhouette.
Accessorize: I choose my accessories after picking my dress. However, I do look at my existing accessories prior to choosing a dress.  To keep cost low I look at the accessory colors that I already own, and try to pick a dress color that will allow me to use items in my closet.  In this case, I knew wearing black match with a lot of what I had in my closet.  I did not have to purchase shoes or jewelry (this made my husband very happy lol).  I also really didn't have to get to a new clutch as I had a black one, but I found one I loved! Choosing a black dress allowed me to save quite a bit, so definitely scope out your closet first before purchasing a dress.

For formal events I tend to think less is more on accessories. Unless you are desiring to have your jewelry be the focal point.  I chose a dress and clutch that was sequined, so I knew I wanted to tone down my jewelry.  My dress was an off the shoulder look, I decided on no necklace but long earrings. If you wanted a large statement necklace consider scaling back on the earrings and going with a stud. If you are walking out with large earring, rings, bracelet, and necklace.  Consider taking off one, sometimes less it more for these occasions.

Shoes...if you are wearing a long dress and your shoes will not be seen. Do yourself a favor and pick your most comfortable pair of heels! Why make your feet pay the price when they won't even be seen! I didn't pick the most glamorous black heels in my closet, but I was able to dance and not be limping by the end of the night. Ha!

I loved my dress choice, I felt comfortable the entire night, which for me that is what I strive for at events. I don't want to be worrying about pulling, sucking in, or tugging at my dress. I want a dress that I don't have to worry about, and of course that will look great in pictures. Remember you don't have to break the bank to look great, be smart with accessorizing, and choose the perfect fit that will highlight your best features.

There are a few every day essentials I believe should be in every busy woman's wardrobe. The basic tee, distressed denim, and neutral flats. Those essentials are perfect for women that are on the go, who want to look fashionable but not overdressed, and of course comfortable.

Majority of my week I am not super dressed up.  I am wearing casual outfits.  It first started when I realized that I am always running errands or to a sports activity.  One day I evaluated my closet and realized that I only had two types of outfits dressy and athletic casual.  I did not have cute clothing for that in between every day outfit.  So I started buying versatile items that I could wear many different ways. I found those three essentials started to be a go-to in my every day wardrobe,

The Basic Tee: Great for everyday wear.  Looks more stylish than a t-shirt.  Get them in different colors to change up the look.  You can find these tops anywhere. I got the one pictured from Zara, but I know Target has a ton. Just make sure you find one that fits well, sometimes these tops have a tendency to have a boxy fit.

Distressed Denim: Who doesn't love these types of jeans? I know I do! These type of jeans bring a great balance to my outfit.  It instantly bring a nice casual flair to the look.

Neutral Flats:  I live by wearing comfortable flats.  My major closet staple is a brown and black flat.  I dress them up and down, and they are so easy to throw on. I'm in flats a lot throughout the week, and previously my flats would get damaged quickly.  I found myself always having to run out and grab new ones.  I now have majority of my flats from Tory Burch.  Yes, I know they cost a little more, but for me it is worth the price. I've had my black ones for about 2 1/2 years and I am just now phasing them out to get new ones. They never lost shape and very comfortable. Cute flats are a must in my wardrobe.

If you want to elevate your every day outfit definitely start with these 3 pieces.

Sunday best! I don't often get this dressed up for church, I love that my church is truly come as you are.  So when they announced this Sunday for Mother's Day would be "Sunday's Best", I happily embraced it!

I've realized that my go-to dressy occasion outfit choice this season is definitely a statement skirt and bodysuit combo.  I love it! What I love about a bold skirt opposed to a dress is I feel like it makes a statement without being too much. Don't get me wrong I do love a great patterned dress.  Skirts just provide the perfect balance, and also I love how girly a flared skirt makes me feel.

Thus far, I have been getting most of my skirts from Chic Wish.  I am really impressed with their skirts, and love the price.  If you are looking to get a skirt, but not trying to break the bank I highly recommend it (no they did not pay me to advertise that LOL).  I often see statement skirts running over $100, and I just can't bring myself to pay that for something that is likely a 1-2 wear.

Also, make sure to check sizing before ordering your skirt! I got the wrong size my first time.  With that type of skirt ordering a too small skirt caused that pesky back fat to rear his ugly head. Don't let that be you! :)

Instagram provides me so much fashion inspiration, I love getting new details on an outfit.  Nothing is worse than being in love with an item, and then not being able to get the details of each item.  Today i'm sharing some of my latest outfit of the day's on the blog!

Majority of my outfits I share are my every day mom uniform.  Nothing too glamorous, but comfortable and cute.  Let's be real, I am a busy working mom of two, I am not running errands and going to soccer practice dressed to the nine's.  However, I do believe in being put together for every occasion.

Make sure to follow me in on Instagram!
